20 Peninsula Blvd. Gulf Shores, AL 36547 p: 334.968.8009 Website The resort opened nine new holes in the summer of 1998, giving it three nine hole courses that are played in three eighteen hole combinations. The new nine, the Cypress Course, is just south of the original holes and borders wetlands. Six holes run east and west and three run north and south. There are six lakes on the new nine holes and the newest nine maintains the same flavor of the original eighteen course. However, it has more of an inland feel because of the hardwoods on the land, as opposed to the pines that are featured on the original holes. The original course, the Marsh/Lakes, was cut out of the natural woodlands and wetlands. Water hazards, in the form of twenty-three lakes, come into play frequently. This combination is extremely scenic because it is bordered on two sides by the Bon Secour Wildlife Preserve. This is a golfer-friendly course because the landing areas in the fairways are quite large. The fairways are wide open, and the large greens are fast. One hole, offering a spectacular view, plays alongside Mobile Bay. The signature hole is #2 on the Marsh nine, a 628-yard, par 5, with four lakes coming into play. The Emerald Coast Tour was held here in December of 1996. Walking is permitted during the twilight hours on weekdays. |
